Regional Training Institute Schoolhouse
Raymond F. Rees Training Center, Hermiston, Oregon
As project manager, I led the SERA Architecture team in close collaboration with Fortis Construction on this design-build project for the Oregon Military Department.
The new Regional Training Institute (RTI) building provides modern educational spaces including classrooms, private offices, open office areas, and support spaces to accommodate RTI's Education, Administration and Medic Training programs. To deliver the required program within budget limitations, our team specified a cost-effective pre-engineered metal building.
After careful analysis, we determined that new construction with shared infrastructure and co-located spaces is more efficient than seismically upgrading and abating existing buildings with fixed footprints. As a result, the design-build team delivered a code-compliant facility that meets RTI's needs for a safe, efficient learning environment.
Through careful attention to detail, we elevated the aesthetic of the metal building to seamlessly blend with the historic campus context. The modern design expresses the future direction of the military while providing cutting-edge spaces tailored to RTI's diverse training curriculum. Additionally, we leveraged workplace design experience to craft collaborative, productive open office areas.
Construction of the new RTI building completed in August 2020.
